21st December
Groundhog Day is a tradition observed in the United States and Canada on February 2 of every year starting in the 16th century. It derives from the Pennsylvania Dutch superstition that if a groundhog emerges from its burrow on this day and sees its shadow, it will retreat to its den and winter will go on for six more weeks; if it does not see its shadow, spring will arrive early.
The 1993 comedy film Groundhog Day with Bill Murray and Andie MacDowell. The film became the 13th highest grossing of the year, with over $70 million at the box office. Over time, the film became a cult classic. The concept of a time loop, where the main character(s) are trapped in the same day continued with Happy Death Day, where a college student relives her death until she discovers who her killer is. InThe Map of Tiny Perfect Things, where two kids who attempt to find every 'perfect' part of the day they relive. 'The Girl Who Leapt Through Time,' based on Yasutaka Tsutsui's 1965 novel of the same name.
So I changed the first line.
I got up, vacated my hotel room, took the elevator down from the 4th to ground, handed my keys to reception and went for breakfast in the cafe next door. That was not different just a variation and actually just then I felt stubborn and a person incapable of change. I've lived a life of being in complete change, either sleeping with a blanket in the desert - hostels - hotels - QE2 - new friend's sofa's - Every day and night for months I wake in a different place. Which I like. Then as I'm riding, I conceive an adventure for which there would be interest from capable backers, get the money, sort out the detail and one journey slips into another and I leave home again on the new journey and don't return until it’s completed.
Am I on some sort of spiritual quasi-logic quest, a faith hunt for a creator. Tibetan Wheel of Life where each journey gets the protaganist closer to a higher state of lightness and wisdom, or is it the Herculean - endless task of being human, beyond ordinary living that makes it easier to survive.
There was a cool breeze blowing and there was a growing sense of being on holiday. I hadn’t had to take a hacksaw to a frost bitten hand so things were a definite plus on that, so I set to my eggs sunny side up with a side of sausages, the easy comfort of it all seemed delightfully wrong.
Replete, I set off knowing any moment I could be annihilated. On the road I was being diligent with sudden absolute focus watching for symbols and coloured shapes, stop signs, traffic lights, road markings all furnishing an incredibly well sealed surface all of which only the very stupid will miss.
Camera stuff: Insta 360 camera faulted so I bought a new one in Nakthon Ratchasima Mall, so using the iphone is troublesome but gets a shot.
It’s so calm and peaceful cycling here, just now, like this. Sudden awareness that the road is all mine, a scooter goes past and we're the only vehicles on the road. I stand out in the open an easy target for anything to happen. At least I'm being seen.
