South America
After a five year break from riding in the Americas, the need to return has always been in the back of my mind. I offer up three journeys for 2026 and 2027.
-
South America 2026 (unsupported) early January until late February
-
South America 2027 (unsupported) early January until late February
-
South America 2027 (100% supported) early March until late April
Journey
For 2026 unsupported I have hand picked a team of 8 riders riders and we have one place left. For 2027 I have 4 places left for the unsupported ride.
These adventures will be real adventures. It's custom built and I will personally stake my reputation on it becoming the best expeditions I have ever led. For the unsupported rides there will be no back up crew vehicle and we will be riding with an agreed manufacturer, carrying a contingent of spares. This special will happen only twice, early January for 6 to 7 weeks in 2026 and the same dates 2027.
Starting early March 2027 I offer up the same ride with but this time with full crew and vehicle support from my friend Erik Thompson, South Americas greatest motorcycle adventurer.
All rides will take in a variety of landscapes and wildernesses which I think is unparalleled and contain immense portraits of nature at its grandest. I’ve found nowhere in the world that astonishes me in the way this continent does. The supported journey will happen only once.

Back to the beginning. Ever since I was a youthful reader I wanted to redo Bruce Chatwin’s walks in Patagonia. Instead I cycled its length before I returned on each of 8 occasions to motorcycle from Patagonia to Alaska. 160,000 miles full of challenge and magic.

As an adventure motorcycle tour guide since 1999 I have led hundreds of riders literally to every corner of the planet: two around the world expeditions, three trans Africa to Timbuktu, three times the full length of the Americas, Morocco 23 times, Europe, the Pyrenees and six rides coast to coast across America.

South America by motorbike is a dream of most would be world travellers. Fill in one of the below application forms if you want to be considered for inclusion in what I suggest is an ultimate journey around South America. All the journeys will be led by myself.
The unsupported ride is reflected in the price. You will be riding in a team on a real adventure. There will be no back up crew vehicle. If we break down we fix it. If you ride well you don't need one. In 40 years I never have.
The world is changing fast. Rides like this won't last forever. Now is the time to ride.
Please email me using the link below and fill in the application form which you can download. The 2026 form is for one more interested rider for a guided ride not including vehicle support. This form can also be used for the second unsupported ride also in 2027.
The 2027 supported form is for interested riders for a guided ride which includes vehicle support. On this ride there will be a mechanic, myself as guide, a vehicle crew and 100% hotel accommodation.
Once you have expressed your interest, we can arrange for a telephone chat.
This is a team event of an extraordinary scale and I will select only the riders I think are suitable for the challenge. It's not about alpha male, it's about how 8 or so travellers communicate the kindness and charisma of this amazing journey
All details are still under discussion so a show of interest at this stage is all I want.
